Introduction

This section describes all types of input and output signals available on iam cameras, including their characteristics and when necessary including connection examples. Location and pinouts of the connectors carrying the signals is documented in Section “Dimensions” and Section “Connector and cable description”

Power supply

DC power input

iam is designed for a power supply input range of 24 V ±10%. The power consumption depends on the utilisation of the main system parts: Image sensor, FPGA, ARM cores. The power consumption is typically less than 13 W. A suitable power supply for iam is available from NET.

Power over Ethernet (PoE)

Be aware in case of using a prototype camera:

If the camera serial number has an X or Z in the 9th digit (e.g. 14A2GEBAX2042013) Power over Ethernet is not supported even though the camera will be detected as a PoE device by a PoE injector!

iam can be also powered using the Power over Ethernet option. The cameras are compatible with the Power over Ethernet standard, versions IEEE 802.3af and 802.3at. They should be used with PoE switches (“endspans”) or power injectors (“midspans”) complying with the IEEE 802.3af/IEEE 802.3at specifications.

The iam models are classified in the power level class 0 or class 3. The power consumption with PoE is slightly higher than consumption with a “regular” power supply. When connecting multiple iam cameras to a single PoE switch, verify how much total power the switch can provide and how it handles cases when the limit is exceeded.

Both PoE modes (A and B) are supported by the camera.

Beware of using PoE cameras with 100Mbit Ethernet cables, where the “spare” wire pairs might be omitted. With such cable, the power wouldn't be delivered when using Mode B compatible power sourcing equipment.

Ethernet connector

iam is equipped with a standard Ethernet connector, 8P8C modular plug, often also referred to RJ-45.

I/O Connector

14-pin DLP (dual-inline-pin) connector for digital I/O and power input. An adapter cable is available (see Section “Accessories”).

Ethernet connector

iamIP67 is equipped with one M12-X and one M16-X Ethernet connector.

I/O Connector

17-pin male M12 connector for digital i/o (optocoupler and TTL inputs/outputs) and power input.

An adapter cable is available (see Section “Cable Assembly”), with D-sub 25-pin female interface connector.

075IOAD - Trigger, Strobe and IO Test Board

Trigger, Strobe and IO Test Board. Can be used to plug two iam cameras crossed together (OUT → IN , IN ← OUT).

CAM1: Primary Camera Connector

Can be fastened on backside of camera using 2x M2x6 srews (Bottom Side Connector J2) or by using discrete wire assembly from samtec SFSD-07-28-G-XX.XX-DR-NUS plugged into topside connecotr J1.

CAM2: Secondary Camera Connector

Secound iam camera can be connected crossed (OUT1 → IN2 , IN1 ← OUT2) by using discrete wire assembly from samtec SFSD-07-28-G-XX.XX-DR-NUS plugged into topside connecotr J3.

J3/J10 - AUX Power Supply

075IOAD can be powerd by 24V supply using J10 connector or J3 srew terminal. If J4 or J10 is used iam CAM1 is always powerd as well.

CAM2 can be powerd as well by jumping “CAM Power” on Terinal J13.

J11-12 - Jumper Terminals

With the Jumper Terminals J11 and J12 the camera IO-terminals can be supplied with AUX Power so additional components like LEDs and bush buttoms can be used.
